Dude, where's my cash?
NIBONG TEBAL: A 54-year-old woman lost her life savings to three women from China who claimed they could chase away evil spirits.
Ho Koi Hiok @ Ho Koi Cheng from Kampung Tonghai here, said she withdrew all her savings from three different banks and handed over about RM65,000 in cash and jewellery when told her two children may face death from evil spirits. She and her husband Tan Chor Chang, 62, who run a food catering business are penniless after the three women visited their home on Friday.
A weeping Ho told a Press conference arranged by Jawi assemblyman Tan Cheng Liang that a 40-year-old woman had approached her and asked if she knew any bomoh (medium) who could help chase away evil spirits which had affected her husband. "When I told her I did not know any, another woman also a Chinese national approached us saying she knew a friend who could help her.
"While we were talking, a third woman also a Chinese national approached us claiming that her grandmother could chase away evil spirits."
One of the women then told me that my face showed that I too was possessed by an Indonesian spirit and instructed me to carry out a cleansing otherwise my two children aged 31 and 22 would die," she added.
The woman told Ho to bring all her savings and jewellery. Ho rushed home on her motorcycle, took her three bank passbooks, withdrew RM60,000 and brought her jewellery."When I returned the three women were there and were holding two black plastic bags and I placed my cash and jewellery into one of the bags and they asked me to look up to the sky. "
After a short while they gave me a bag and told me to only open it after seven days, but I opened the bag when I suspected something amiss later in the day and found newspapers, apples and packets of salt and flour," she said.
